Annual Wellness Care

Focusing on disease prevention and early detection can enhance the quality and length of your pet’s life. Semi-annual physical examinations (every 6 months) and age-appropriate wellness testing are crucial in helping prevent serious health issues down the line. Wellness testing, which includes bloodwork, fecal exams, and urinalysis, plays a key role in detecting potential health concerns before they become significant problems for your pet.

Puppy and Kitten Care

Set the foundation for a proactive, preventive care plan for your new puppy or kitten with a check-up in their first week at home. During this visit, we'll discuss a vaccination schedule, effective methods to manage fleas, ticks, and other parasites, and the optimal timing for spaying or neutering your pet.

Ask questions! Together we’ll make sure your new furry family member gets off to a healthy and happy start in their new home.

Personalized Vaccination Programs

Protect your pet from harmful diseases. We offer a comprehensive range of routine vaccinations for dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies, covering everything from rabies and parvovirus to feline leukemia and bordetella and vaccinations required for travel.

Microchip ID Implants

Microchips significantly improve your chances of being reunited with your beloved pet if they were to ever be lost. These devices are as small as a grain of rice and are painlessly inserted just below the skin during a home vet visit. It’s a small step that makes a big difference in the protection of your pet.

In-Home Examination and Consultation

Prevention is the best medicine. We bring full, nose-to-tail examinations right to your doorstep. We also offer a wide scope of consultations for both acute and chronic conditions. We’re happy to answer any questions about your pet’s health to ensure their well-being and your peace of mind.

Dietary Counseling

Good health starts with good food. We provide nutritional counselling to address your pet’s unique needs at each stage of their life. Whether it’s to help them grow strong, maintain a healthy weight, or manage chronic health issues, we will help you identify options in your budget.

Behavioural Counseling

Behaviour issues are a common challenge for pet owners. Our mobile vet service allows us to observe your pet in their own environment and create an effective action plan. We provide advice for redirecting behaviours such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling, anxiety, and aggression. Often, behaviour issues can be solved with modification techniques. Occasionally, we will recommend natural alternatives or prescription medication.

Geriatric Pet Care and Quality of Life

As pets age, their needs change, too. Veterinary house calls allow us to see your pet’s daily environment and discover things that may impact their quality of life. We identify potential challenges and develop an approach that adapts to your pet’s changing needs.

Laboratory Diagnostic Testing

VHCS is equipped to conduct routine blood and urine testing,  heartworm testing, and other tests meant to identify or rule out certain medical conditions affecting your pet. All without you needing to leave the house!

Telemedicine

Connect with us via text, phone, or video chat to receive real-time advice for your pet's needs. Discuss your concerns and gain professional guidance on the best steps to take for your pet's health.

Ultrasound

Ultrasounds allow us to really understand what’s going on in your pets body. Using this non-invasive technology, we can detect tumors, infections, blockages, or foreign objects inside the body.

Pets must fast before an ultrasound. Please remove all access to food and treats the night before the appointment.  Failure to do so may result in the need to reschedule.  Your pet may continue to drink water up until the appointment time.

Ideally, your pet will have a full bladder for their ultrasound.  We realize it is not always possible to prevent your pet from urinating right before the appointment.  However, we ask that you refrain from letting your pet outside or you remove their litter box to discourage urination before the ultrasound. This is especially important for kidney/urinary studies.

Most pets tolerate ultrasounds very well.  With patients who are very wiggly, panting too heavily, or vocalizing frequently, we may ask your permission to give a mild sedative to ensure we capture the most detailed images possible. Your pet will not be given any sedatives or medications without your consent.

Laser Therapy

Many conditions have responded positively to pet laser therapy including osteoarthritisintervertebral disc diseaselick granuloma, cellulitis, and others in dogs. Laser therapy reduces pain and inflammation and promotes the healing of many tissues in the body, including skin, ears, gums, muscles, and tendons. Laser therapy is often used to address recurring ear infections.

Laser therapy can also help with:

  • Surgical wound healing

  • Traumatic wound healing

  • Increasing the metabolism of specific tissues

  • Reducing the formation of scar tissue

  • Immunoregulation

  • Improving nerve function and nerve regeneration

  • Releasing of painful trigger points

  • Speeding the healing of infections
